Ingredients
- 4 eggs (at room temperature, separated)
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 1 cup Nutella
- 1/2 cup butter (unsalted, melted but room temperature)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour (minus 2 tbsp )
- 2 cups milk (lukewarm)
- icing sugar ( for dusting cake)
DIRECTION
1. Set your oven's temperature to 325 F (160 C). An 8x8-inch baking dish should be lined with parchment paper.
2. Separate the eggs, then place the egg whites in the mixer's bowl. Egg whites should be firm after mixing. The egg whites should be put in a basin and left alone.
3. In the bowl of your mixer, combine the egg yolks and icing sugar. Blend until the mixture resembles cream and is a light, pale yellow color.
4. Add the Nutella, melted butter, vanilla extract, salt, and cocoa powder. Mix for one additional minute to ensure everything is thoroughly combined.
5. Turn the mixer to low and gradually add the flour, one tablespoon at a time, until all of it has been mixed.
6. Add the milk gradually while the mixer is still on low and beat until everything is thoroughly combined. The mixture ought to resemble a very thin crepe batter.
7. Using a spatula, begin gently folding in the egg whites, one-third at a time. Continue until all of the egg whites have been included. It's acceptable to still see frothy pieces floating around the top of the batter; they don't need to be entirely incorporated.
8. Bake for 40 to 70 minutes, or until the top is browned, after pouring the batter into the prepared baking dish. The cake shouldn't move and should feel solid to the touch.
9. Place in the fridge for at least two hours after fully cooling.
10. Before slicing into it, sprinkle some icing sugar.
Notes
Depending on your oven, the baking time may vary significantly, so start peeking at it at approximately 40 minutes to check how it looks.
Powdered sugar or confectioners sugar are other names for icing sugar.
